What To Expect From Me As Your Wedding Officiant

Steps To Getting You Married

As with all marriages in Australia, there are legal matters to consider. Having ID to prove you are over the age of 18 and a birth certificate,  are all standard documents to share with your chosen celebrant.  As your celebrant I will make these formalities as painless and don’t take away from making your special day as the best it can be. Acceptable forms of ID are: Birth Certificates, Passports, Drivers Licenses, or another form of Photo ID.

  • First, we will meet to discuss your plans so that I can get a feel for what you and your partner wish for the day. Together, we’ll discuss ideas and suggestions to create a plan that will match your unique style and preferences. I want to make your dreams for the celebration come true, so just let me know what your vision includes!  This meeting should take place at least one month prior to your planned wedding date.
  • No matter what country you are in, getting married involves some legal documents. It is helpful if you bring to this meeting the completed Notice of Intended Marriage. I will need to see your ID (e.g. your driving licences), and your birth certificate or passport indicating your birthdate and where you were born. If you have been previously married, you will also need to provide your original Divorce Certificate or your former spouse’s Death Certificate. 
  • My knowledge and experience are invaluable at this meeting as we will cover every detail: the rings, the paperwork, the seating, the music, and so on. I aim to make this decision-making process as pain-free for you as possible!
  • At the celebration, we will solemnize the union.  You, your partner and two witnesses will sign the Register.  After the celebration, I will register your marriage online with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and submit all the required paperwork.
  • What may surprise you is I also like to meet with you after your celebration to make sure that all the paperwork has been covered – in particular, name changes and registering the marriage. This will assure you that you and your partner are starting your married life with everything in order.
